No-exam life insurance
What qualifies someone for no-exam underwriting, how the process functions, and what your options are if you don't qualify.
A growing number of carriers offer expedited underwriting—for applicants within certain parameters, they render decisions using data from your application, medication records, driving history and other sources instead of ordering a paramedical exam. Some approvals arrive within hours. Every quote shown on this site specifies whether an exam is required, optional, or not necessary for that particular plan.
What it changes
No exam does not eliminate underwriting; your information still gets carefully reviewed, and any policy based on misrepresented details may be disputed for up to 24 months after issue. If the carrier's review discovers potential concerns, it may request medical records or exam results; you're free to decide whether to proceed after that point.
Who tends to qualify
Most people younger than around 60, seeking coverage up to the carrier's no-exam threshold, with a clean health history and no tobacco consumption during the past year or longer, qualify for expedited review. If you had recent lab work at a doctor's appointment, certain carriers may accept those test results rather than requiring an exam.
When an exam is needed, it usually involves a 20- to 30-minute appointment at your residence or workplace in the West Sacramento region, completely at no charge. For individuals in good health, examination findings frequently result in upgrading your rate class, so it's not necessarily unfavorable.
